Download/Install ebrary Reader™ Plug-in for Windows
ebrary Reader is a browser plug-in that works with your browser. It lets you view the actual pages of a book or other document, search the full text, print selected pages, and link to a variety of reference sites to get more information. ebrary Reader is available for a variety of browsers on both Windows and Macintosh computers.

  • Note: We have ended support for Windows 98, Me and NT 4.0 Workstation as of July 2006.
Memory
  • 64 MB minimum
  • 128 MB recommended.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0, and 7.x
  • Mozilla 1.7 and newer
  • Firefox 1.0.4 and newer
LINUX and UNIX platforms are not supported at this time. We are working actively on a solution for these platforms.
The AOL browser, MSN browser, Netscape 6, Opera, and ISP-branded browsers (versions of Internet Explorer your ISP provided to you) are not supported.

Instructions
Internet Explorer
  1. Click the link to initiate the Active-X installer.
  2. If using XP, if your Infomation bar appears, click it and choose "Install Active-X Control". If not using the Information bar, a box should appear asking if you want to install the Active-X control, click "Install".
  3. Once install is successful, you should see a message in the browser telling you that installation is complete.
  4. When you click to view a book, the license agreement should appear in a pop-up window (be sure to allow pop-ups for ebrary.com) for you to accept.

Firefox
  1. Click the link to initiate our automatic installer, which is a .xpi
  2. If the ebrary Reader is not installed automatically by Firefox, then perform the following additional steps:
    1. After clicking the installation link, click on the puzzle piece that says, "Click here to download plugin."
    2. Click on the "Manual Install" button. This will open an ebrary download page in a new window.
    3. Click the "Download ebrary Reader for Windows Now" link. Depending on your security settings, Firefox may display a plugin security warning at the top of the page and refuse to download the plugin. If this happens, you must:
      1. Click the "Edit Options..." button.
      2. Click "Allow" to add ebrary.com to the list of trusted sites.
      3. Click "OK" to update your options.
      4. Click the "Download ebrary Reader for Windows Now" link again to download the Reader.
    4. Once the plugin downloads, click the "Install Now" button to complete installation.

Other browsers
  1. Click the link to download the installer to your system.
  2. Find the installer as it was downloaded to your system (usually Desktop)
    Search for "ebraryReader.exe" on your hard drive if you can't find it.
  3. Double click to run the "ebraryReader.exe" program.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions in the "ebrary Reader Installer."
  5. If you get a message saying you need to install the ebrary Reader when opening a document, try closing and restarting your browser.
